Saitone Live Report
Saitone performed at his CD Release party over the weekend in Shibuya. His 30 minute set was accompanied by cutting edge visuals projected on three screens. Throughout the set his hands were mostly on the mixer as his barrage of blips, bloops and blings were charging out the speakers. Compared to the recorded audio from his latest CD which just came out today, Overlapping Spiral he was cutting up the beats like crazy. He added a lot more effects and there were extra blips thrown in everywhere. For those of you who are not familiar with chiptune, chiptune is a musical genre where the music is made mostly from 8 bit videogames systems like the original gameboy and NES or famicom as it’s called here in Japan. Saitone played a non-stop DJ set that didn’t stop to talk or look at the audience to see them dancing their souls away. He also didn’t see them during the third track, “Right Night” which was very ambient and everyone was bobbing their head along. Saitone was quite the introvert. But what can you expect from an artist who makes their music from 20 year old video game systems. At least his music is fresh and doesn’t sound like it came from an 20 year old system. It’s quite remarkable the level of song quality that is attained by such old school technology. It is almost impossible to distinguish between modern electronic music and Saitone . At the end of the concert he awkwardly thanked the audience and quickly departed from the stage. Here is a list of the songs he performed:
1. Peculiar Orbit
2. Overlapping Spiral
3. Right Night
4. Lotus
5. Combination
6. Xevi-Loop
