VOI Release Party Interview!

HJ was lucky enough to have a quick interview with mudy on the sakuban for their VOI album release tour. Getting these young boys to talk was like pulling teeth. Perhaps instead of verbally talking, they talk through their music.

HJ: First off can you all introduce yourselves by telling us your interests and instrument. I also read that you are all college students currently, could you tell us your major?

Mori Watifo: I’m the guitarist, I like to drink alcohol and my major is economics.

Honoki Yuuki: My major is management and I’m the bassist who has no interests.

Itou Kohei: I’m just a drummer who likes to read books. Oh yea! My major is architecture.

Furusawa Hirokazu: I am a hikikomori (isolate oneself and never leave your room). I’m the song writer for the band and the guitarist. I study psychology.

Yamakawa Ryohei: I’m the third guitarist, also a book reader and my major is also economics. (band laughs)

HJ: Those are some mathematical intensive majors, what brought you to music?

Mudy On The Sakuban: Who knows (everyone laughs).

HJ: The bands focus is on the triple guitar layout, what brought about this layout?

Furusawa Hirokazu: At first we didn’t decide how many guitars or how many basses we would use ahead of time. Rather, it was more like “let’s start a band with the 5 of us.” Coincidentally, there were 3 guitars among us.

HJ: So you all met in college?

Mudy on The Sakuban: Yep.

HJ: You just released your new album, VOI. What are your final thoughts on it?

Furusawa Hirokazu: With six tracks coming in at approximately 30 minutes, it’s about the length of one of our shows. I hope that people listen to our CD and as a result come to our shows. I’m pretty confident that this will happen.

Mori Watifo: From the beginning to end, it has the raw energy of one of our live performances. So I am very satisfied.

HJ: You guys are an instrumental band, what led to having no lyrics?

Furusawa Hirokazu: We don’t feel like we have any obligation to release instrumental only music. For now we are content with doing as we please. I suppose lyrics aren’t necessary.

HJ: What are your future plans?

Furusawa Hirokazu: Well we just opened a bunch of sold out shows in Kansai, and we sold out tonights show as well. As we are relieved to have gotten such a strong reception we want to play in as many places as possible. Our main objective is to get as many people as possible to hear our music. We will be playing all over Japan, about 24 shows until summer. We will play with My Way My Love, Do Make Say Think and many others.

HJ: Sounds great!
