Back when there was no such word as "emo", and definetly before anyone else in Japan was making such music, Buddhistson was creating emotional rock music. Formed in the summer of 1999 by singer and guitarist Shima, drummer Marcy and bassist Yas, guitarist Yoshii joined the group in 2000, just before their first single and album were recorded and released from independent label No Code. In 2002, Buddhistson signed to LASTRUM, following which keyboard player Yumi joined and they recorded their second album, which was released in February 2003. In 2004, they set up a personal label called Music For Gorillas, through which, in 2005, they released albums from Whence He Came and Kamomekamome, as well as their own third album, which was mixed and mastered at Mailmen Studio in Utrecht, Holland, by engineer/producer Martijn Groeneveld.
