The band formerly known as Versailles was forced to change their name do to a legal reason in the United States. After asking their fans for help in deciding a new name for the United States, the band received a mountain of submissions. Although none of the fans submitted the exact entry "Philharmonic Quintet", the band was able to combine a few of the submissions and agreed on, "Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet-". This name change will only affect the names of releases and concerts in the United States. The new name evokes two important aspects of the band. The philharmonic aspect alludes to lovers of harmony and quintet alludes to the band's five members.
Versailes -Philharmonic Quintet- was formed under the name Versailles in 2007 by Kamijo, Hizaki and Jasmine You. Later on the members Teru and Yuki were added to the roster. These members bring together a wide spectrum of musicians from various visual kei bands to create the Victorian Visual-kei group, Versailles. Visually, they add modern influences to an 18th century European garments and have a very aristocratic feel to them. Not only does this classical European style pervade through their band name and fashion but also influences their music. By 2008, the band has released one full length album, a mini-album and two singles. Their popularity is huge in Japan and around the world.
