In high school A.K.I. started a band called Krush Group. In 1989 he formed A.K.I. Productions with Gold Cut and Migo Amigo and in 1991 A.K.I. Productions became a two-man group with Illicit Tsuboi, making its musical debut on Nutmeg Records with a 12-inch single. A.K.I. Productions released their File Records debut album, Japanese Psycho in 1993. Three years later while they were in the initial stages of recording a major album, Illicit Tsuboi retired from the group thus ending production and making A.K.I Productions a solo artist.

After A.K.I. was well received at a 1-man conceptual live performance he began collaborating with Sayoko Yamaguchi, but after her death began to work solo again. A.K.I Productions creates very unique sounds that deconstruct the traditional idea of music.
