Firo is an ambient solo project by artist Hiroyuki Tsukakoshi; incorporating live instruments, sampling, electronic sounds and a plethora of other sonic materials to create a blend of sounds that is delicate yet energetic. Drawing influences from multiple genres, Firo uses a computer as well as a variety of filters and other equipment to generate sudden sounds and dissonance within his music. Discovered by Ken'ichi Itoi (better known as PsysEx) from a demo sent in to Ryoondo, Firo has been quite prolific since arriving to the scene in 2003, cutting his teeth on Water/Green (released July 2003), and has since been involved in experimental projects like sound-tote (released September 2003) along with PsysEx and snoweffect. After the release of his first album, Paddle (released December 2003) Firo went on to remix tracks for hpercam, cinq, Oriental Homeward, OTOGRAPH and others. The track SwNH off of paddle was used as background music in the TBS (Tokyo Broadcast System) television show Sekai Isan (trans. “World Heritage”). April 2005 saw the release of a second album, Light court, and in 2006 he worked on music for a Mitsubishi commercial. In September 2006 he released his much anticipated third album, Velvety tiny globe. Keep a eye on this up-and-coming ambient artist.
