After Tokumaru Shugo made his debut in 2004 with "Night Piece", he showed the world the level of depth and color in his darkened dreamlike world. His subsequent releases were also released outside of Japan to great reception. Some reviewers coined Shugo to be the next Cornelius. While he definitely produces music that is very unique and fantasmic, that is where the similarities end. He uses over a hundred musical instruments and random machines and toys in the creation of his music. He oversees every aspect of his music and does all the recording and mixing by himself.

His live performances are also known to cause up quite a stir for their unpredictability. Sometimes it's just him, while at others its a trio, and occasionally he will make an appearance as "Tokumaru Shugo & The Magic Band" which has 8 members. In 2007 he released "EXIT" in Japan and the album was later released in 2008 in both America, The UK, Sweden, Korea and other countries through various labels; a show of significant appeal from around the world.
